In June 2024, the DeMont Institute of Management and Technology launched an exciting initiative with the potential to transform classroom practices across the UAE: the TeachForward Challenge. Under the theme “Design for Change and Innovation,” this competition invited educators to reimagine their teaching methods, fostering an environment ripe for innovation. As the stories from this inspiring event unfold, it becomes clear how profoundly educators can serve as catalysts for change.
The Essence of the TeachForward Challenge
The TeachForward Challenge was conceived with a clear mission: to empower teachers to share their innovative classroom practices. The overarching goal was to invite schools from across the UAE to participate in this celebration of educational excellence, highlighting the transformative initiatives educators implement daily. The central theme, “Let’s Celebrate Stories Out of the Classrooms,” aimed to shine a spotlight on the remarkable innovations that arise when educators are given the freedom to think creatively and explore new approaches.
The Competition Structure
The TeachForward Challenge featured a multi-faceted structure, beginning with a Call for Proposals that encouraged K-12 teachers to submit entries showcasing their innovative educational practices. Teams of three educators could nominate themselves or their peers to illustrate how their passion and imagination positively impacted classroom experiences.
Each team was tasked with creating a 10-minute video or a 1,000-word proposal addressing several key areas:
- Explanation of Excellence or Innovation
- Origin of the Idea and Challenges Faced
- Originality and Innovation
- Evidence of Results
- With over 30 schools participating in the initial round, the competition cultivated an atmosphere of collaboration and shared learning, inspiring educators to think outside the box and explore new possibilities in teaching.
The Final Round
The grand finale of the TeachForward Challenge took place on October 19, 2024, at DIMT’s campus in Academic City, where six finalist teams presented their innovative ideas live to an engaged audience. An esteemed panel of judges, including Ms. Leisa Grace, Editorial Director of Teach Middle East Magazine; Ms. Rema Menon, Founder Director of Counselling Point; and Mr. Prem Ramachandran, Vice President of White Water Public Relations, assessed the finalists based on rigorous criteria, focusing on impact, sustainability, collaboration, adaptability, and innovative use of technology.
The Winning Teams
While all finalists showcased unique and innovative ideas, several teams emerged victorious, earning cash prizes, trophies, and certificates that celebrated their hard work and creativity. The winners were:
- First Prize: Global Indian International School, Dubai
- Second Prize: GEMS Founders School, Dubai
- Third Prize: GEMS Millennium School, Sharjah
These achievements underscored not just the quality of their projects but also their commitment to fostering positive change in education.
Why Participation Matters
The TeachForward Challenge transcends mere competition; it represents a celebration of the transformative stories emerging from classrooms across the UAE. By highlighting the innovative practices of educators, DeMont not only recognizes their invaluable contributions but also inspires others to reimagine their teaching methodologies. This initiative reminds all stakeholders of the immense potential educators hold to drive meaningful change and innovation within their schools.
Looking ahead, the TeachForward Challenge promises to have a lasting impact on education in the UAE. Educators are encouraged to share their exciting stories and experiences, fostering a community of innovation and collaboration. Together, we can create a brighter, more progressive future for education.
